Getting in on the act

There are several projects underway in the Studio. The most important being the creation a Zine. For those who are not yet familiar with the concept, zines are small independant publications that are very popular amongst artistic communities. They are also a good way to get yourself into print and begin building your portfolio.

A Life Prolifique - the Zine, will be a quarterly publication, 48 pages, hopefully in full colour and have a limited print run of between 100 - 1000 per issue (depending on the interest and the cost of printing).

Zines in the past have become collectors items and often showcase aspiring artists, photographers, writers, events, big thinkers and extraordinary situations. They are also more accessible to those who have never been published before. Most of all they are alot of fun to put together.

Run a Google search for Dog-Eared, Play, Art of Life (Teesha Moore), Mysterium, The Gleaner, Soul Vision and Artitude to get a better idea.

That said, here is what we are looking for:

* Interesting photographs

* Unusal images

* Thoughtful prose / poetry, even if it is on the back of a beer coaster, take a piture of it.

* Insightful interviews

* Scanned ( 300dpi) or clearly photographed original artwork, this includes doodled pages, artist's trading cards, journals, sketches of Dungeons and Dragons characters, murals, collage, exhibitions, cartoons, altered objects, sculpture, fabric arts, jewelry... the list is endless.

* Critiques of interest groups that you know or are a part of.

* Travel stories

* Anything that you would want to see yourself.

Submissions will be accepted at the editor's discretion based on whether it is tasteful, relevant, original or unusual.

Prose and other written submissions have a standard 1500 word limit. However there may be exceptions.

Please include details that you wish to be printed with the submission: name, acknowledgements, materials used etc.

At present we cannot offer payment, but in future, if you know of any philanthropists out there who are willing to back a cause... things may change, let us hope. For now you will recieve a copy of the magazine.

The cost of the magazine to purchase is yet to be advised but we anticipate it should not be more than $10 AU (which seems to be the standard for a good quality Zine).

Submissions will be accepted from folk worldwide but must be emailed only. Please send queries or submissions to labyrinth-lady@hotmail.com

Can't wait to see the world through your eyes...
